From the Pastor's Pen
by Bishop Milton R. Hawkins on April 18, 2020The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has devastated countries and economies across the globe. Unfortunately, many lives have been lost to this dreaded and invisible enemy. COVID-19 has proven to be no respector of persons, religions, or socio-economic status. These are certainly the days that try men’s souls.
Consequently, it is incumbent upon me to urge you to continue following the guidelines set by the CDC, (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), WHO, ( World Health Organization), and our Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, in practicing Social-distancing, wearing masks and gloves, when out in public.
As pastor, I count it a privilege to serve you, but at the same time, I must also caution you to observe the aforementioned guidelines. It falls within my purview to safeguard the flock in which the Lord has given me oversight. Not only must we as saints “believe”, but we must also “beware”.
Social-distancing has proven to be an effective remedy to slow down the spread of this Coronavirus, and we should act accordingly. I believe it is proper for us to exercise prudence in addition to our faith during troubling times. “…Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127: 1(b).
