From the Pastor's Pen: Congressman John Lewis
by Bishop Milton R. Hawkins on July 28, 2020John Lewis is owed a debt of gratitude from all of us. He was a fearless, enthusiastic, no- nonsense leader, who championed the fight for equality and justice. His involvement as a young man, demonstrated his courage to stand against racism and mistreatment of people of color. His bravery inspired others in the fight for justice.
Obviously, his courage and tenacity proved valuable, as it brought him into contact with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Halls of Congress were better because of Mr. John Lewis. Known as “the conscience of the U.S. Congress”, he left an indelible impression on American politics. Tremendous gains were made due to his impassioned involvement. His contributions to society will live forever.
We celebrate his accomplishments, honor his legacy, and mourn his loss.
